Miles of nothing! This was taken east of the park on one of the prairies.

 

The old fasioned garb is pretty cool. These guys are interps that put on shows all summer dressed like this.

 

Rangers on horseback. They still patrol the back country this way.

 

Even the little ones get involved in the parade.

 

Lining up for the 4th of July parade. This is a lot of fun with a hot dog roast and icecream social after the parade.

 

Here she is in her travel container. They keep the eyes draped with a cloth to avoid any extra stimulation. As soon as she wakes up, they can transport her to her new home in the mountains.

 

Look! I'm touching a grizzly bear!

 

Ammie and Kristen writing down stats while Travis readies the radio collar. The bear was a 4y/o grizzle female that was being relocated from our housing area to another part of the park.

Fire fighter training. We had an extrication class this day. It's where we learn to safely tear apart cars to get victims out after an accident. Controlled destruction can be fun :)

 

Such a tough Life! A big male Bison was sleeping on the trail. Definately something to steer clear of.

 

A spotted frog in the meadow around Cascade Lake. I've never seen a frog up here before. There aren't too many species that live at this elevation.

 

The old observation cabin at the top. Hence the name of the peak.

 

A look down at Cascade Lake. The lake is 2.5 miles in from the road and is a popular fishing spot. I hiked by it on my way up Observation Peak. It was 11 miles round trip for the hike.

 

It's wildflower season! The flowers here are so pretty, but only last a couple weeks.

 

A moose hanging out on the side of Observation Peak. No too many of these around in the park. Since the fires of 88, most of them have moved south in search of new food supplies.

 

A day at the beach

 

Swan Lake Flats. There is actually a lake out there, but since we are standing at the same level, you can't see it, duh! Lots of water fowl hang out here. Never saw a swan though.

 

A pic of Bunsen Peak from the trail out. It doesn't look that tall from here, but the hike up and over was a bit of exercise.
